Case Study

Knowledge Weavers Hub

A bilingual national resource hub for Indigenous education, built with the National Centre for Collaboration in Indigenous Education at First Nations University of Canada, bringing lesson plans, videos, a searchable resource library, an interactive story map, and Elder knowledge to educators across Canada.

The Client

A National Hub Educators Can Run

The National Centre for Collaboration in Indigenous Education (NCCIE) at First Nations University of Canada needed Knowledge Weavers to grow from a resource site into a national, mobile-friendly hub: easy for educators to search, clear in its pathways to lesson plans, videos, and stories, and simple for NCCIE staff to manage and extend over time.

Working with NCCIE, we modernized the platform at kwh.ca with a culturally grounded, accessible user experience, clear content structures for teaching resources, storytelling, and Elder knowledge, full English and French versions, and a content studio that keeps publishing in NCCIE's hands. Phase 2 work continues, including micro-credential learning pathways for educators.

What We Delivered

A Platform Built For Stewardship

The engagement rebuilt the hub around how educators actually search for and use resources, with the structure and tools NCCIE needs to keep it growing.

Platform Modernization

A rebuilt, mobile-first platform designed for scale, security, and long-term sustainability, with a culturally grounded user experience that reflects Indigenous ways of learning.

Clear Resource Pathways

Lesson plans and teacher guides, a video library, a searchable resource catalogue, an interactive story map, and an Elder knowledge section, each organized so educators find what they need quickly.

Bilingual Delivery

Full English and French versions of the hub, so educators across Canada can work in the language of their classroom.

Content Studio & Training

A content management studio and hands-on training so NCCIE staff publish, update, and steward the hub themselves, aligned with Indigenous data sovereignty and OCAP principles.

Capacity That Stays

Owned And Managed By NCCIE

The hub is built so NCCIE controls its content, its data, and its direction. Staff publish new resources and update existing ones through the studio, and the platform is structured to grow as new teaching resources, stories, and learning pathways are added.

We continue to support Phase 2 of Knowledge Weavers alongside NCCIE, with the platform's long-term governance and ownership staying where it belongs: with First Nations University of Canada and the educators it serves.
