Most planning starts by listing what an organization or community is missing. Asset mapping flips that around. It's a map of what you already have: the people and their skills, the physical spaces, the local groups and partners, and the relationships that quietly get things done. Laying those strengths out often changes how a group plans, and it makes a far stronger case to funders than a list of problems. For example, a community might realize it already has three volunteer-run spaces and a handful of skilled Elders it was never formally counting.
